Gracelynn’s Story

April 4, 2016 By Shann 10 Comments

Each Story

Every story is unique when it comes to premature birth. There are different circumstances, different reasons, and different outcomes. However, with each story I feature on the blog, I always find things that I can relate to, and things that were similar in my story.

Please read more about Gracelynn, as told by her mom, Rebecca.

Gracelynn

1.Tell us about your baby.

Gracie was born on December 27th, 2015, 11 weeks early by emergency c-section. She weighed 2 lbs, 7 oz and was 15 in long.

2.How long was she in NICU? What was the hardest part?

Gracie spent 59 days in the NICU. The longest and shortest two months of my life.
The hardest part of it would have to be the uncertainty. One day she would be almost off oxygen, and the next day she would be on 4 liters of flow for her to breathe. It really was a roller coaster of emotions for us.

3.Do you know what caused your premature birth?

Yes. My doctor didn’t notice that I had a UTI at my appointment, so I didn’t have any antibiotics for it and it got severe enough to put me into labor.

4.How are you and baby doing now?
Gracie is doing fantastic! She now weighs 7lbs, 8oz and is 18.5in long. She came home on oxygen, but that is being slowly weened down.
I don’t sleep much anymore, but I’m so glad to have her home happy and healthy.

5.What advice do you have for other parents of preemies?

When someone offers you help, take it! I’m always happy to have a friend that will come over and sit with Gracie while I take a power nap or clean the house.
Don’t build your baby’s wardrobe around preemie size either. Chances are they’ll only fit for a week or two, if they haven’t outgrown them by the time they come home.

Thank you so much to Rebecca for sharing her story of beautiful Gracie with us. Please leave any comments and support below.

What a sweet baby! I’m impressed by how much hair she has already! So glad things are going well for both of them, minus the lack of sleep. Hope that improves soon!! 🙂
