October is Over? Already?
Happy Saturday and, more importantly, Happy Halloween! Can you believe it’s the last day of October? Seriously, these months are just flying by. I’m not ready for Fall to end.
After we head to the gym this morning, it’s costume time. Don’t worry…I’ll post pictures and see if you can guess the theme. I’m crossing my fingers and toes for no rain and above freezing temperatures.
Let’s wrap it up
So, how was your week?
As I mentioned the other day, I was a little disappointed that my son didn’t get to dress up for Halloween at school. He did have a “Harvest” party, and I volunteered for it. I wasn’t sure what to expect, but it ended up being really fun, and it was more Halloween than Harvest, which I was happy about. They had cute stations they rotated to doing different crafts, playing games, and eating snacks (including cupcakes with black frosting, which made for some great pictures, as you’ll see below.) They also DID get to dress up a little that day and on Friday. Thursday was “crazy” sock day and Friday was “crazy” hat day because they’ve been doing a fundraiser and the school met their goals both days.
Did I mention how proud I am of my son? Probably not because I was so upset about the costume thing. Anyways, last week he received an award for Friendship. He was chosen from his whole class of 25 for the month, and got a certificate and a free meal at a restaurant. He’s also been raising money for his school all by himself. He’s been calling relatives to get donations, and has won a prize every day for meeting his goals. I think we have a future March of Dimes Family Team Leader.
Speaking of the March of Dimes, me and my husband went to a Fundraiser on Thursday night. It was called the Signature Chefs Auction, and it took place at a hotel downtown. Chefs from around the city prepared some of their signature dishes for us to sample, then there was both a silent auction and a live auction. It seemed like a lot of money was raised, but I haven’t seen a total yet. We got to attend the event because we are this years Ambassador Family, and next year we will be speaking at the event.
Yesterday, I helped in Art class, and everyone finished their projects. Did I mention how much I love my son’s Art teacher? She’s wonderful. They spent this first part of the year focusing on one Artist, patterns, and primary colors. In their next section, they will be learning about a new Artist, doing some collage, and lots of other great stuff. I just love how they are learning Art history while also creating. Plus, they’ve just been working on one big Art piece, so it’s really nice and we can hang it up at home instead of having tons of little things that we don’t have room for.
I’ve got to run. Seriously. I’ve been running the track at the gym trying to knock another item off my 30 Things before the end of my 30’s.
I hope you have a wonderful weekend, a Happy Halloween, and get to enjoy your extra hour of sleep all you lucky ones without children. Mine will be up at 4 am instead of 5 am. Hooray!
I hope you’ll post all of your Halloween pictures to the wall of my Facebook page HERE.

Love your son’s smile with the black frosting. I remember those days. The whole Harvest thing is ridiculous.

I used to love wearing my costume to school, and we would go trick-or-treating at the older classes. I guess they realized not everyone celebrates, which is why the Harvest party was a good idea.
Congrats to your little one on his friendship award!

Awe what a good boy! Congrats to him on winning the award and I am glad it wasn’t such a big deal about the costumes. I can’t believe fall is almost done too, that means my son has his first birthday soon.

Aw, that’s so awesome of your son! I can imagine how proud you are of him 🙂
I think a lot of schools don’t celebrate Halloween. I worked in an elementary school for two years ago about a decade ago, and the kids weren’t allowed to get dressed up, but they had a fall party in the afternoon.

What an awesome reward!!! Congrats to your son! Glad he got to have a Harvest party… I hate how schools try to do away with all the fun stuff these days. I am really happy that my son’s school still does Halloween parties and a costume parade.
