Party Decorations
I love making party decorations. I love coming up with ideas, shopping for everything, and working on them at night while unwinding from the day.
It was lots of fun making all the party decorations for the twins’ 4th NICUversary. You’ve seen a few of the party pictures, and you’ve heard all about the food, so now it’s time to share the rest of the Dr. Seuss inspired party with you.
I’ve included some of the products with my Amazon Affiliate links below. Remember, there is no additional cost to you. Simply click on the picture, and it will take you directly to the products.
Popcorn Bags
My first decoration had a party food element. I made popcorn bags for the sweet, colored popcorn I found.
The popcorn came from a wonderful popcorn shop. The shop is locally owned, and they were really great. They let the boys taste a bunch of different flavors, and watch how they make it.
There were actually 2 different blues and 4 different reds. We finally decided on blue raspberry, and the red was strawberry cheesecake. Yum!
I actually tried to make the popcorn myself, and while it turned out, the time it would have taken to make enough, made it not worth the effort. Less stress is always best when I plan my parties.
For the bags, I cut paper bags in half, and decorated some like the Cat’s hat, and the rest like Thing 1/Thing 2. For the Cat bags, I used tape to make the red and white stripes.
DIY
The rest of the party decorations were either made by me, my husband, or clearance items I found along the way. I also used all the red, white, and turquoise household items we already had in our house.
I used paper lanterns instead of balloons. In the past, I’ve also used beach balls. Balloons around small children just freak me out, so anything I can substitute works for me.
I did use a few things that were ready-made Dr. Seuss, like a few banners, and the cutouts that were hanging from our umbrella.
Plus, my husband did the awesome pictures of the Cat in the Hat and Thing 1 and 2. While I may be crafty, he’s the real artist in this family.
This is the one I did. It was VERY abstract.
Photo shoots and Photo Booth
About a week before the party, we had a mini photo shoot. I dressed the twins up in blue wigs, and Mr. B was the Cat. We used his magic hat, and just used some red and white tape on it. I then made my own collage, as you can see below, and also had one printed up at Walgreen’s.
I dressed them with Thing 1/2 wigs I found on clearance after Halloween last year, and Thing 1/2 shirts. They then wore those shirts again at their party.
I let our party guests wear the wigs, and made a big banner to put behind them for a DIY photo booth. There were also “Thing 1” and “Thing 2” signs for each guest to hold up in front of them.
I then will be sending those pictures to each of the guests. They turned out really cute. Here’s the one of our family, so you can get the idea.
So, there you have the rest of our NICUversary party inspired by Dr. Seuss. I hope it has inspired you to try your own!
