Birthdays
This week revolved around planning celebrations, shopping for presents, wrapping said presents, getting very little sleep, and actually celebrating. That’s right. You guessed it. Birthdays. 2 birthdays to be exact.
If you missed my post yesterday, the twins turned 5! I still can’t really believe it. Those 5 years have gone by in a blink. I hardly remember the newborn and toddler years. Seriously. Sleep deprivation is a killer.
Anyways, here are my 5 birthday-inspired things that made me happy and thankful this week.
Finding the Perfect Presents
Presents are my love language. I love giving them, and I don’t hate getting them either. I think I’ve passed my love onto my children…at least in the receiving part.
I’ll admit that I slacked on my birthday shopping this time around. I usually buy things throughout the year as I find good sales, but I just didn’t have the perfect presents for the twins. I had a few small cars, and I did get them each a scooter that was on mega-clearance after Christmas, but I still wanted to get them something special.
Their favorite colors are pink and red, and the only toys they love are trains and cars. So, my goal was to find at least one pink and red of one or the other.
Do you know how hard it is to find a pink train or car?!?! Do girls not like playing with cars and trains?? Or do other boys not like pink as much as Little P? I guess not because it was nearly impossible to find anything. It took me until 9pm the night before their birthday.
But I did it!!!
It actually didn’t end up being either a car or a truck, but they were pink and red. They watch this show called Super Wings on Amazon, and I found them the toys from the show!!!
I knew they would love them, and I was right. They had to sleep with them last night, which is the sure sign of the perfect present. If you’d like your own “Super Wings” here they are. I got them the singles, but they also come in 4-packs. These are my Amazon Affiliate links, so you can click through the picture to be taken directly to the product at no additional cost.
ps. The show is pretty cute, but the theme song will totally get stuck in your head forever.
Having the whole family celebrate together
Since the twins’ birthday fell on a Thursday, it was a little hard to all celebrate together. The twins have preschool, Mr. B has school, my husband has to work, the twins and Mr. B have soccer, and I have a class at night. Birthdays in the middle of the week are hard.
So, I hatched a plan so we could at least spend part of the day all together.
After the twins got home from preschool, we went to pick up Mr. B from school. Thursdays they have early release day, so I figured he wouldn’t miss too much by picking him up a couple hours early. We then picked up McDonald’s and headed for my husbands work.
He reserved his conference room, decorated with pink and red balloons, and had cartoons playing on their big screen TV. I also brought a few presents, pink and red plates, birthday crowns, and even found red and pink #5 candles for the cake I brought. His coworkers were awesome and also got the twins a few presents.
The twins loved it!
More Celebrations Planned
In addition to yesterday’s birthdays, we’re going to go out to dinner on Saturday night. Their first choice was Red Robin, but since they don’t take reservations, I’m going to have to find a kid-friendly alternative.
Grandma and Grandpa are coming, which will make it special…and easier on everyone involved.
We also are planning a party at home in a few weeks with their school friends. The both asked to invite their preschool friends, so it will just be a simple cake/pinata/run-around-outside sort of party. I’ve already got my theme and a few decorations.
No Crying
As I mentioned, the twins also had soccer yesterday. It’s been a bit of a rough situation for Big C in regards to his anxiety. He’s just not been doing well with big crowds. He cried and sat out the first practice. He cried at the beginning of the last practice. But, yesterday? NO CRYING!!! At all!!
He did want me to sit in a spot where he could see me, and he did call out to me, “Mom, I’m not crying!” every 5 minutes, but he did it! And I think he actually had some fun!
Progress! Definite progress.
Friday
This week has me worn out. Between all the planning and doing, I’m ready to just relax. It will be a super early bedtime for me tonight, since it’s shaping up to be a busy weekend.
Luckily, we only have one thing planned today. It is a bit of a big one, but it’s only a half hour.
KINDERGARTEN ORIENTATION! Aaaaaahhhh.
I think I’m more nervous than the boys. I just am praying for no anxiety, and for them to have fun. I really want them to be excited about going to kinder in the fall. Fingers crossed.
So, TGIF and happy weekend to you! What fun do you have planned?

Happy Birthday to your kiddos! I don’t know what it is about “5”, but it seems like they’re no longer so little anymore once they hit that milestone. My daughter turns 6 this summer!

Happy Birthday to your boys! They are super cute! I hate that I too have forgotten a lot of jake’s earlier years. I am happy that I’ve had my blog since before he was born so I can go back and remind myself. Have a great weekend.

Happy Birthday boys!!! Those toys look like something my boys would love as well!!!! We have way too many toys as it is though. Cars, trucks, trains galore. I need to get rid of 90% of them. I also own every piece of clothing they both have ever worn. Its absolutely ridiculous. Who has time to do a garage sale though? Not me. And I hate just donating things that cost so much $$$$$!!!!

Happy Birthday to your boys! I am also planning a birthday celebration! My little one turns one this week. I am definitely not going all out, just something small with close friends and family, but I am so excited to be celebrating! Good luck with the Kindergarten Orientation! I have a feeling I will be a complete mess once we get to that point!
