This week was filled with rainy, dreary weather…AGAIN. Come on summer! It’s almost the end of June…where are you?!?!
Even with all the rain, it was a pretty productive week. My 4 year old started swim lessons with my Dad, and I think he’s really liking it. There was only one day they cancelled because of thunder, and on Friday only one other child came to class in the cold, wet weather. My son thought this was the best because they got the whole pool to themselves, and even got to play with a “noodle.” So, despite the fact that he’s chattering 5 minutes into the lesson, at least he’s still having fun. I’m crossing my fingers and toes that it warms up and the sun makes an appearance this week so he can enjoy it even more.
As for me, it seems like I always have some errand to run. These boys go through milk like crazy, and I always need snacks for bribery…I mean rewards…I mean treats. Whatever.
Lucky for me, my mom lives very close, and often comes with on trips to the store with all three boys. It’s hard to push a cart and a stroller, then try to remember why I’m even at the store. BUT, my mom wasn’t feeling well on Wednesday, and I needed to get some things (and needed the boys out of the house,) so I braved it alone.
Overall, it was what I would consider a success. I got my workout in from getting everyone in and out of the car seats and into their stroller and vice versa a million times. My 4 year old actually listened nicely, and held either the stroller or my hand the whole time, and we did not get kicked out of anywhere. I was a little concerned at the library when the twins discovered how their screams echo, but we were on the way out, so we only got a few dirty looks. We made it through all the stores without any huge meltdowns, and I only forgot 2 things that I had to go back for when my husband got home. So even though it’s much easier (and more fun) when my mom comes along, I really can do it on my own.
One thing I can’t do on my own is stop our basement from getting water in it. Luckily, my husband came to the rescue. Our gutters were filled with those annoying whirlybirds, so the buckets of rain that fell from the sky also overflowed down our basement wall and onto the carpet. My husband cleaned the gutters, then got an industrial strength carpet cleaner.
After getting the musty smell out of the basement, he cleaned our living room carpet. I had no idea it was really a nice beige color. And it’s not supposed to be sticky or mushy or crunchy. Maybe in about 15 years, when the twins and older brother aren’t spilling, spitting, smearing, or crumbling it will stay that way.
At least it looked nice for twelve hours.
