The first illness of the season has taken hold of one of our family members. Ugh.
I just got back from the doctors with my oldest. He has been complaining of a sore throat since late afternoon Sunday, but no fever, good appetite (which actually is a little unusual as he is a very picky eater.) The biggest clue to me was that he didn’t want to go with me to a rummage sale. He’s always up for going on any kind of outing…especially without his brothers. Plus, grandma and grandpa were going, so I knew something was up.
I loaded him up with vitamin C (orange juice, vitamin c pop,) tucked him into our bed, and put on a movie. He even took a nap with no complaining. Uh oh.
Yesterday morning, still sore throat, but energy level seemed better. I didn’t want to chance him going to school and spreading the germs, so he rested in his bed during school hours, then came out to watch TV on the couch. By last night, he was playing with his toys, so I thought we were on the mend.
This morning, still sore throat. Off to the doctors office. Strep test, negative, so just a virus. I’m happy he doesn’t have strep, but this means there’s nothing to make him feel better except lots of fluids, rest, and time.
Even though I used to LOVE Fall, I am not loving this time of year anymore. That yucky virus is making it’s way to Wisconsin, and I’m sure the Flu and RSV are right behind. The weather is not helping out at all. The temperatures went from 80 degrees and humid to having to turn our heat on just overnight. Today, the sun is finally out again, but couldn’t we gradually ease into the winter? Isn’t that what Fall is supposed to be about?
While I’m concerned about my baby, I’m also super worried about the twins. I know they need to get exposed to some germs to boost their immunity, but I’m scared.
So, it’s back to limiting public outings as much as we can, loading up on vitamins and probiotics, and washing those sticky, icky hands.
Luckily, I have a lot of things going on in the next couple weeks (more in the next post,) so I can’t just sit around worrying ALL the time. Plus, these three faces…

I feel the same. Anyway at what age are preemies supposed to begin to be exposed? I still don not feel like exposing BB#2, I still feel like keeping him safe. xoxo Fanni

I know! I’m honestly not sure when it is OK. I wish I could keep them all safe forever!
