Team with a Theme

April 27, 2016 By Shann 15 Comments

Team

Our family team for the March for Babies always has a theme. After walking as just a family of three the first year, I was so inspired by all the other family teams, I wanted to make one of our own to honor the twins and their fight. I noticed teams having matching colored t-shirts, clever names, and always an inspiring message. I wanted to incorporate all three of those things when coming up with our Family team.

How to choose the right theme for your next event, team, party, or fundraiser

Our Name

Even though the day is about honoring the twins, premature birth awareness, and healthy babies, I wanted our team name to reflect our family and all three of my boys. While the twins had to struggle to survive, Mr. B had to be strong too. He had to stay away from his mommy overnight for the first time, had to deal with parents who were sad and upset a lot of the time, and had to learn how to be a big brother without even meeting his siblings for the first three months of their lives.

With that, the name Bex’s Brave Brothers became of family team name.

Year 1 theme

When I thought about brave, I immediately thought about super heroes. Who is one of the most recognizable super heroes and also one of the bravest? Superman.

I took pictures of the boys in Superman T-shirts, and used them anywhere I promoted our team. With the help of our T-shirt designer, Ink Designs, our theme really came to life.

Year 2

While technically not a “good” guy, my boys have a weird love for Darth Vader. They call him Dart Vaddy, and can watch clips of Star Wars on my husband’s phone endlessly. Mr. B also loves all things Star Wars, so theme for year two was set. It also happened to be the year that “May the 4th be with You,” gained a lot more popularity…which is the twins’ birthday. How perfect is that?

My mom actually thought I came up with that saying. Ah, if only…

This Year 2016

It took me a long time to come up with this year’s theme. The twins are older, and have more definite opinions. Plus, as the Ambassador Family, we’ll be speaking in front of everyone on the day of the walk.

I kept trying to think of characters or people who were brave, and couldn’t figure it out. Then, I thought about people who are brave in real life, plus things that the twins like, and it hit me….Firefighters!

We went to our local fire station for their open house, and all three boys loved it. Plus, they love playing with fire trucks at home, and, of course, watching Fireman Sam (if you have a little boy and haven’t watched, check it out on Amazon.) AND, my Grandfather and Great Uncle were both Fire fighters. With all of those factors, how could that not be our theme.

So, without further ado…a sneak peek of this year’s T-shirts:

I also like this year’s theme. Maybe next year you could do something on a sports theme since you haven’t done that yet and I bet your boys will be into something by then!

Reading your blog for the first time and loved this post. Those T-shirts look great. My sister has twins that were born at 6 months, and you’re right, it wasn’t just hard for them but for their other two kids as well. Hope the march goes great!

I love this years shirt so very much. When my Eve fell out of a second story window…. the fire department chief was the first to arrive and comfort us. They truly are real superheroes.
