Toddler beds and Mommy time

Toddler Beds

Ah, the toddler beds.  How I still hate thee.  At night, we are a perfectly fine place to sleep in, but we are not made for naps.  Or rather, the twins are not made for naps.  However, I refuse to give up!  I still need you nap time!

Let’s review what has been happening.

I wait until the twins are tired and crabby or I can’t take it anymore.  Which ever happens first.  I then put them each in their own bed, cover them with their blanket, turn on the sound machine, turn on the moon light, the star turtle, and the Hello Kitty star light thing.  This is the bed time routine, as well, so you would think it would work.  As soon as the door closes, I hear, “Thump, thump, thump, thump, thump,” followed by screaming and crying.  When I go back in, little guy has jumped in big guy’s bed, taken his blanket, then got a nice scratch and bite from doing it.

Darn you toddler beds!

Nap time changes

I couldn’t let them hurt each other anymore, so this is what happens now.  I take little guy and put him in big guy’s bed.  I then take big guy and put him in my bed.  I then have to lay down with him until he falls asleep, or he doesn’t.  Little guy actually usually goes right to sleep in the room by himself.  Apart from yesterday, of course.  Yesterday, he spotted a lone pretzel under his bed, tried to crawl under to get it, and got his head stuck.  Luckily, he didn’t hurt himself, but hopefully scared himself into not doing that again.  Just in case, I again moved the crib so he can’t get under the side part where he was stuck.  Ugh.

Sometimes my 5-year-old also likes to come snuggle in the bed.  So, this is what we have in my bed:

The whole arrangement wouldn’t be so bad, except it takes my big guy so long to fall asleep that I sometimes do too.  Since I’ve been trying to be more productive, this is not ideal at all.  I have no other solutions yet.  By the time I come up with something, they’ll be done with naps anyways.  Oh well.

Mommy time

I do have some exciting news, though.  A week ago or so, I was able to sneak out from the bed and come do some writing.  For the first time, I submitted a story to a site called mamalode.  It’s an awesome parenting magazine and website, and they liked my story!!!!  It’s going to be published to their Online site this THURSDAY, March 12th!  WOO HOO!

Don’t worry.  As soon as I have the link, I will be sharing it everywhere.  You can then read it, and share it too.  Pretty, pretty please.

I also did something else for myself this past Saturday.  It’s something that I have not done in almost 8 years.  I took a BALLET class.  It was awesome!  I felt old and out-of-shape, but I loved every minute of it.  I remembered most of everything, and could feel muscles I haven’t felt in ages.  Even though I have hardly been able to walk since, it was totally worth it.  And I’m going to do it again!

One last bit of good news…the sun is out!  This is a major occurrence here in Wisconsin.  We have been living closed up for months, and we can finally go outside without our noses freezing off.  Maybe running around outside will exhaust the twins into nap time in those darn toddler beds?!

Well, a mom can dream. Hopefully, without anyone else in my bed.

Thank you! It’s definitely hard to find the time, but we Moms have to do it!
