Summer Celebrations
We had a few celebrations over the weekend to start off this summer vacation. We had a new kindergarten graduate, a Whole30 graduate, and a few birthdays, so we took full advantage of making the first weekend of summer vacation memorable. Here’s a recap of our summer celebrations…so far.
Friday at the Zoo
On the first official day of summer vacation, we headed to our local zoo with friends. It was sunny and hot, so we wanted to be outside. I packed a few snacks, loaded the wagon, lathered everyone with sunscreen, and we were off.
Our unique idea of spending the day at the zoo was not so unique. It was packed!
Other than frantically trying to keep track of the twins, a few meltdowns because the popcorn trailers weren’t open, and whining from all three about everything, it was a fun day. We saw a few animals, ate some snacks, rode the merry-go-round, and the train. We also finally found popcorn, and the three boys split a slushie.
The sun had worn everyone out, and I had to work, so we headed home. I went to help with my dance school’s end-of-the-year showcase dress rehearsal, and the boys’ grandparents came to watch the boys until my husband got home.
Saturday
All that sunshine and whining must have worn them out because the twins slept until 7 am Saturday morning! It was wonderful. You know what else was wonderful? One packet of Stevia in my tea with a little almond milk. Yes, this was my first day off the Whole30.
After helping with the dance showcase performance (which was beautiful and all the kids were so wonderful!) we prepared for more celebrations. As I mentioned, it was my first day off the Whole30, and I was feeling pretty happy. Not only did I accomplish my goals, but just in time to celebrate Mr. B’s kindergarten graduation and my Mom’s birthday.
We had a really great dinner at a new restaurant. All three boys actually ate dinner, didn’t whine or cry too much, and everyone had a great time. Mommy even had a glass of wine. Yum.
When we got home it was still super hot outside, so we put all the boys in their swimsuits, and they played in the sprinkler until the sun went down.
Sunday
That sunshine is seriously magical. The boys all slept in until 7 am again.
Mr. B had a birthday party to go to, and my husband had to work, so me and the twins ran some errands. They started getting a little silly in the cart at the store, so I told them to be nice to each other and could give kisses instead of hitting. It worked…a little too well. All the rest of the trip they were giggling, and then kissing each other. It was actually pretty cute.
All went well, until we picked up Mr. B. He had a sack full of candy from a pinata, and, of course, everyone wanted some. I told them they could have a piece after lunch, which resulted in a giant meltdown. Luckily, it was nap time…or close enough for me.
By that time, my husband got home, so mommy went and did the grocery shopping by herself. Aaaaaah.
Plus, the ice cream truck came by, and every neighborhood kid ran into our yard and got a treat. My husband texted me a picture of their happy sticky faces.
So, that was our first weekend of summer. Filled with sunshine, treats, and celebrations, it was a great way to start off vacation.
What did you do this first weekend of summer break? What are you plans for the rest of summer?

Looks like a great weekend 😀 Isn’t that always the way, though, when you think it’s a great day to do ____, then everyone else does too? LOL.

Sounds like you had a pretty great weekend. I mean, the boys sleeping in until after sunrise sounds pretty magical in and of itself. 🙂
How did you feel on Sunday after eating out and drinking wine??
You weren’t weighing yourself either, did you finally? Any surprises or what you had thought?

It sounds like a busy time and lots to celebrate! Congrats on finishing Whole 30! I tried it and failed but want to get back on the horse and do it again. There is a lot of planning involved obviously, and I need to make sure to block out enough time for it. Happy summer!

Sounds like a perfect first weekend of summer! I guess I don’t really have a “summer break” anymore, but I’m looking forward to warmer nights for some adventures and farmers markets over the next few months!
