It’s that time of year again…Birthday Party Time! In less than a week, my oldest will be turning 6-years-old.
That is a little crazy to me. What’s also crazy is that we have a birthday party coming up on Sunday, and I’m feeling a little unprepared. Yes, I have been buying decorations for quite a while now, and yes, we have made a list of the food we want to serve, but that’s about it.
No, wait. I also ordered the cake today.
I know. I know. You ordered a cake, and aren’t making it?! Yes. Baking is not my strong suit, and I’m not going to stress myself out when I know I can get a delicious cake made at a great price. Thank you Sam’s Club.
What I do like to make is the decorations. I love having a theme and running with it. If you’ve seen my previous party posts, you know I tend to go a little overboard.
Here are a few examples:
I didn’t “Monkey” around when it came to decorating his 1st Birthday party…actually, yes I did! It was complete with balloon palm trees, and banana shots for the adults. Our house is still overrun with stuffed monkeys.
It was a 2nd Smurfday party, out in the sunshine. We really lucked out with some beautiful weather in October that year.
Even though his traintastic crew was small for his 3rd birthday because the twins just got home from the NICU, we still had a fantastic time with everything Thomas.
His 4th birthday was so good it was scary. Who doesn’t love blue and green food and Monsters everywhere?
For his 5th birthday it was Minion Madness.
I had a LOT of fun with that one.
However, this year I’m way behind. I haven’t made one single thing. Ugh.
I do, however, have all my supplies. I just need to find some time and get to it. Actually, I’m going to stop writing, and do it right now.
Any guesses on what the theme will be this year? Leave it in the comments, and I’ll give you a hint in Sunday’s post, with a full party recap on Tuesday.
Oh my gosh, I love all of your themes – the Monsters Inc. one especially looks so cool! I think you may have told me what the upcoming theme is so I’ll refrain from guessing. If I’m remembering correctly I am super looking forward to the party recap!
Thanks Becky! Yes, I think I did tell you π
Good luck! All of the other parties look so amazing! Tons of decorations and the theme everywhere π Looking forward to seeing how this one turns out!
Thank you! Me too π
I love the Monster’s Inc. party, so cute! And I totally agree about cake. I love to bake but when it comes to parties, it’s so nice sometimes to just order that and take some of the party stress off my shoulders!
Exactly! Thank you.
Why not do a Lego theme? There are a TON of great (and easy) Lego theme party ideas on there that wouldn’t be hard to pull off! We did a Minion party for Jackson’s 6th birthday and we had a Box of Shame. It was hilarious. Every kid took turns in the box. π
That is hilarious!!!!
This so awesome tons of great memories.
Thank you!
wow you are really good at the party thing, can you come do mine next year π

I can’t wait to see what your theme is this year..all the previous years looked like so much fun! My son’s 6th birthday is in November and I have no clue what I am going to do for him, lol. I might take some of your ideas. π
You are welcome to them π
My daughter is also turning six in Nov. and I don’t have anything planned yet!
Plenty of time. Let me know if you need help π
So sweet! You are such a great party planner! What fun and creative parties you have had!
Thank you!
You are so good at these themes!! Great work! I’m always impressed by these posts of yours. I am so not creative
Awe. Thank you! I enjoy decorating…it’s the food part I”m not so good at.
That was fun seeing all the themes from each year! You really do go all out. I’m sure that is fun for everyone. Can’t wait to see what this years is!
Thank you!
You are making great memories for your son! I love the Monsters Inc. and Minions! If I had to guess, I would say Spiderman would be this year’s theme :).
Thank you! Good guess π We will see soon!
Hmmmm Cars? Transformers? I have no idea what ‘older’ boys go for these days!
Good guesses!
So fun! I have no idea what this year’s theme will be, but I’m looking forward to finding out! Birthdays always sneak up on me. Our girls’ birthdays are one week apart in late January and early February…so once October hits it feels like a roller coaster of holidays and birthdays. Have fun planning!
I agree with the roller coaster part…now it’s holidays, March of Dimes, and then the twins’ birthday too. Summer really is the only relaxing time.
How fun! All of these parties look like a blast. Loving the minion birthday:)
Thank you!
In a week, my youngest turns 4 years old. So excited to celebrate him.
Guess it’d be Cars or Hotel Transylvania? Anyways, you really did a great job with the themed parties! π
Good guesses! You’ll find out on Tuesday!
These are totally fun parties! We do a themed family party for each of our girls each year too. We’ve had unbelievably wonderful weather every year! Hopefully we both can keep that going!
Yes! Thank you.
This is great Shann! I ADORE themes of any kind, and probably go overboard with them. I can’t wait to see what you come up with for #6!
Thank you so much!
Such fun themes! My little miss turns 1 in a month and a half so I have to start thinking of this!
Awesome! Let me know if you need any help π
I love how you showed us each year! So awesome! Looks like your son is lucky to have you as his mom! Im going to have to put my money on a super hero this year! π Either way I’m sure it’s going to be another great party! Thanks for sharing π
Thank you so much.
