If I had a nickel for every time I had to wipe a snotty nose this week, I would have enough to hire someone else to do it. And that’s just when I catch them in time. Otherwise, you can guess where it gets wiped. Yuck. Yuck. Yuck.
I’m not sure where they picked up this little “cold,” but it looks to be something that’s going to stick around for a while. I’ve tried sucking out their noses with the Nose Frida, but that doesn’t seem to help. For those who haven’t seen this, there’s a plastic piece that goes in the kid’s nose, and it’s attached to a long tube, which goes in the parent/caregiver’s mouth. There is also a little filter inside. For those that have seen this contraption and thought, “No way am I going to use my mouth to suck out anything out of anywhere,” it really does work. And no, you don’t come into contact with anything gross. Plus, you can thoroughly clean all the pieces, unlike those bulb syringe things. However, as I said, their noses still run all day long.
It doesn’t seem to be slowing the twins down at all. They are still playing, fighting, running, and screaming.
My older guy, however, was not as lucky.
Around 3 am on Saturday morning, he woke up crying saying his ear hurt. After giving him some pain reliever, he was able to go back to sleep. In our bed, of course. By morning, though, he had a fever, so off to urgent care we go. (Actually, he asked my husband to take him this time, which was more than fine with me.) Diagnosis: Double ear infection. Poor Buddy.
All Saturday, he laid around, just sipping water, and watching TV. He even WANTED to take a nap, so I knew he was not feeling good. His medicine finally kicked in and his fever broke, but his sad little eyes convinced me to let him sleep with us again. I’m a nervous wreck when my kids are sick, so I like having them close by. Although, when his foot was in my face in the middle of the night, I regretted it just a little bit.
By Sunday, the medicine had fully kicked in, and he was eating, drinking, and playing like normal. Of course, he tried to still get some extra TV time in, and I’m sure we will get a sad look again at bedtime, but I’m not falling for it. No kids in bed tonight!
I really, really, REALLY can’t wait until it gets a little warmer out. I think some fresh air is just what everyone needs. Without taking 2 hours to get dressed to go out for 5 minutes of play. Did I mention I’m sick of Winter?!?
