If it wasn’t for the #30DayWriter Challenge, I may have skipped today, but I am not one to give up on a challenge.
We had a pretty late night last night. Well, late in comparison to our usual Saturday night. I’m talking 10:00 pm, and we were still out. With all three kiddos.
We had a family party with my husband’s side of the family. It was his Aunt and Uncle’s 50th wedding Anniversary.
We all had a really fun time. The kids especially. Cake, running with cousins, and tons of attention from relatives we haven’t seen for quite a while…what’s not to love? It was pretty hard to get them out of there.
Overall, they behaved pretty well. We got to the party around 6 pm (It started at 5:30 pm, so not too bad.) All three boys had just gotten up from naps, gotten dressed, and strapped in the car, so they were a little disoriented. My bigger guy wasn’t shy at all, smiling and giving “high fives,” but the other two clung to me for a little bit.
Dinner wasn’t for another half hour, but the boys were hungry. Mommy didn’t do very well on packing snacks, so we made do with olives, cherries, and lemonade from the bar. I’m not sure the bartender was very happy seeing me come up every 5 minutes, but you do what you gotta do.
Finally, dinner was served. All three boys sat nicely, and actually ate most of their dinner. There were a lot of nice speeches, and only the last couple might have been interrupted by overly enthusiastic clapping and cheering twins.
I think the highlight of the party for the twins, my bigger guy especially, was the Cake. His whole face light up when the waitress set a piece in front of him. I do admit, I had to try it. Twice. But, that’s it. Just too bites. I’m pretty proud of my self-restraint. At least when it came to the cake. The wine on the other hand…
We then let the boys burn off the sugar, by running back and forth from the dining area to the bar area with their cousins and new friends. The whole place was just for our party, and no one minded too much. They either thought it was cute, or weren’t paying any attention.
So, even though the boys didn’t get into bed until almost 10:30 pm (3 + hours from normal bed time,) they still were up way too early. At least there was a 7 on the clock.
We do have another day of activities, so I’m hoping we all aren’t too crabby.
I’ll fill you in on Tuesday (along with a recap of our first swimming lesson,) since tomorrow we’ll be meeting another amazing Micro Preemie.

Sounds fun and smart idea, mom, for letting them burn off that energy! Boys especially need it 🙂

Wow! 50 years! I’ve always hoped to see that too…I suppose I still could if I got married today and lived to be 81. Lol. Glad your boys had such a fun time and behaved so well! Sounds like such a great night out!

You’re too funny. I’m not even going to calculate how old I’d be 😉

Your boys are absolutely adorable! I am never against breaking the bed time rule if it means a little fun, especially with the family! It had to be such a great feeling seeing them have a blast with their cousins. Kuddos to you for having amazing self-control when it came to the cake 🙂 That is no easy task! I am impressed that they were up at 7ish in the morning again. Mid-day may have been quite miserable for you as they starting getting tired but hopefully they were back on schedule again in the evening! Great post!

Luckily, they took long naps yesterday. Thanks for reading!

We also had a party on saturday and my daughter was up much later than usually 🙂 But, it was fun, we all need that from time to time.

Agreed 🙂

What is that??! Whenever our kids stay up late (they normally go to bed at 7:30, too), they wake up just as early, or earlier in the morning. Ugh, the injustice. I love when you can be somewhere with other adults that enjoy or at least don’t mind your kids. Bartenders, excluded 🙂 Sounds like a memorable evening, and 50 years, wow!
Shann says
I think kids can just sense that we want to sleep in, so they wake up extra early 😉 Thanks for stopping by and reading.

GAH! Your kids are ADORABLE! Props to you on having a 730 bed time, I am TERRIBLE at maintaining a regular bed time with my kiddos. I feel like a need an award when I get them in bed by 8. I’ll have to work on that. lol! It’s always a nice surprise when they behave themselves at an event! Sounds like you have a great time!
