Getting Healthy
Getting healthy is hard. There are so many different components, like eating right and exercising. Plus, you need the motivation to make those changes, if you have bad habits.
I’ve been trying to get back on the exercise bandwagon, as well as eating healthy, for quite some time. Remember my post Resolutions and Sick Days? Yes, it’s been that long. January. Ugh. My ballet class is starting to help with the exercise part, but I still need to do something more than once a week. I’ve been lacking in motivation, and I’m always so tired. So, today is the day I’m starting a new “program.”
Getting healthy is important to me in order to feel better about myself and fit back into my pre-pregnancy clothes. Plus, I need to do it for my health (high blood pressure) and my kids. My back has been causing me so much pain, I’ve been using a heating pad every night. I think it’s partially from lifting up 30 lbs of kid in each arm, and partially because my stomach muscles aren’t as strong as they used to be. I also want to have more energy so I don’t get winded chasing the twins around the playground. I really don’t want to be super embarrassed to be in a swimsuit for swim lessons. Luckily, those aren’t until July.
So, how am I going to do it? I’ve got a plan! I’ve got a food plan, an exercise plan, and an online journal to keep track of everything and keep myself accountable.
The Motivation
I ordered some new vitamins and protein shakes from our Twins’ Club fundraiser last month, and they arrived in the mail yesterday. I have never purchased one of these kits before, and the cost itself was a little bit shocking to me. I talked it over with my husband, and talked it over in my head A LOT. I realized that it’s so easy for me to spend money on the kids clothes, toys, or anything, but making this purchase for ME was really hard. Why is it so hard to spend some money on my health? Sure, the results aren’t guaranteed, but is anything? So, I did it, and I’m happy I did. It was just the motivation I was looking for.
I know money isn’t a motivating factor for everyone, so you need to find what works for you. Maybe you have a pair of jeans you really want to fit into, or maybe you’ve got a big event like a wedding or high school reunion coming up. Just find whatever it takes to finally push you to getting healthy.
I’m starting fresh today….So last night, I ate a huge piece of birthday cake, enjoying every last bit of creamy frosting, and got my mind ready for today.
Healthy eating and exercising plan
So far, so good. I ate oatmeal for breakfast, had a snack bar mid morning, ate a sandwich on wheat bread and one serving of reduced fat chips for lunch, and took my vitamins. I’m going to have one more snack, then I will have my protein shake for dinner.
I know most people have the shake at breakfast, but dinner is my biggest challenge. I seem to eat later and later each night, and always eat way too much right before bed. With a shake, I can eat it anytime, then make dinner for the rest of the crew.
I’m going to try my hardest to do some kind of exercise video tonight. We don’t have a gym membership, and it’s raining, so no walking tonight. I actually like following the videos for the most part. Sometimes the hosts get a little annoying, but I stick to the ones I can stand, like Bob Harper, Denise Austin, and on rare occasions, Gillian Michaels. I can only take so much of her.
Here are a few of my favorites, with my Amazon Affiliate links. Just click through the picture. No cost to you, and I make make a small commission.
In addition to the exercise videos, I’m going to get back out my pedometer and try to get those 10,000 steps in. I’m sure I will get quite a few in as I go back in the forth fetching sippy cups, changing out the laundry, or wiping somebody’s booty when they go #2. Ahem. Something we still need to work on before kindergarten. And the twins aren’t even potty trained yet! Oh boy. I will definitely need to be healthy to tackle that!
So, who is ready to get healthy with me?
